FIRST Tech Challenge Louisiana – Dean’s List reminder

Louisiana FIRST Tech Challenge Coaches,

If you didn’t see an invoice for Quals registration this week, please let me know.

Two items here –

1) A last-minute reminder about the Dean’s List deadline
Nominations for your students are due tomorrow, November 15, for interviews at the December 1 Qualifier.  Your Dean’s List nominees are interviewed at any Qualifier where your team is competing.
For more information about the Dean‘s List nomination, please review the Dean‘s List Submission Guide on the FIRST website:
2) From our FTA Mike Sonnier:

There is apparently a bug in FTC SDK v4.1 that causes some “deadlock” situations.  We saw a few odd things at the scrimmage with one team in particular having lock ups but its not clear they were seeing this specific bug.  In any case, the bug occurs in all version <4.2.   4.3 is the latest version that was released late last week, and was small but included some files that were missing in the 4.2 release.

Also 4.3 includes Google “TensorFlow” technology to aid with video recognition of minerals for Sampling.  There is a blog post at http://firsttechchallenge.blogspot.com/2018/11/tensorflow-machine-learning-technology.html with more details and sample code in the 4.3 release for teams.

Details on the changes in 4.2 and 4.3 are at https://github.com/ftctechnh/ftc_app#release-information .

I will note that my team updated a pair of phones to 4.3 and checked out the TensorFlow demo in OnBot Java last night, and it was simple to identify the Left-Center-Right position of the gold mineral.  Pretty cool.
